- Hello all,
-
- I am trying to set up winsock to be able to do remote printing over
- the internet. I have been having trouble configuring winsock to work
- in addition to the PC/TCP network software that I currently use. Are
- these incompatible? or has someone figured this out?
-
- If we can't use winsock with FTP, Inc.'s PC/TCP, can we configure it
- to be used with NCSA telnet and ftp software. How do we do this?
-
- Thanks,
- Todd

-
- Sure it does. First of all, Mosaic is reasonably usable at 14.4 - I do it, and
- even have inline graphics turned on. The MSU weather server works great, as
- does the interactive map server. (Now, if you try to load one of those bit
- .avi files from the weather server, you are going to wait a while, but the
- "postage stamp" maps that are inlined are suprisingly reasonable. What DOESN'T
- work too well is when people use fairly large pictures of Al Gore inline... :)
- )
-
- I was unable to use Mosaic with the Trumpet Winsock. Well, it worked, kinda,
- but was subject to fits and jerks, and occasional lock-ups of Windows, random
- phone hang-ups, etc. It was NOT a pretty sight!
-
- I switched to Distinct TCP/IP and all of my Mosaic problems went away. Most
- inlines take just a few seconds to transfer at 14,400, and there are no pauses
- in the reception.

-
- Mosaic worked fine with Trumpet Winsock for me. No delays, hangups, etc.
- But when I want to hear a sound file from mtv.com, it's time to forget
- the modem link and go find a PC with Ethernet.

- Your mileage may vary. I missed the square brackets the first time

- However, I also had severe problems with the basic slip connection and quirky
